Welwyn Garden City Hostel

Purpose

The hostel provides a safe space to stay for people over 18. Residents may self-refer or come to us via an outside agency. We have 81 rooms with basic meal provision, 35 self-contained rooms with shared kitchen facilities and 8 rooms that are completely self-contained. We also offer emergency accommodation for a maximum of three nights through our 4 council beds. This emergency provision can sometimes be extended. Our longer term residents can stay with us for up to 18 months.

As well as providing the security of a safe, warm environment our team of 5 specialist support workers and volunteers offer signposting and guidance across a range of issues. We help people who need resettlement advice, mental support and help with problems around drug and alcohol use. We also offer recreational activities to build social skills as wells as Chaplaincy services and support for those with complex needs.

We work with the local councils and out of area councils within Hertfordshire, as well as working closely with the prison service and probation service.

Facilities

As well as our rooms, self-contained facilities, and residents’ lounge, we also have laundry facilities, a canteen and a large garden with barbecue area and seating. Alongside these residents’ facilities, we have a number of spaces that are also available for hire to the wider community. These include a board room, a large training room, a quiet room, and an IT suite.

The hostel is within walking distance of train lines to London and the north. Residents can also walk into the large town and further out to enjoy rural areas.
